Reggiani sidelined at Dortmund: January could mark a turning point
The Modena-born defender has fallen down Kovac's pecking order after a promising start to the campaign. Milan and Southampton are monitoring the situation.
Luca Reggiani is going through a difficult period at Borussia Dortmund. After impressing in the second half of last season with six starts and even scoring in the Bundesliga against Augsburg, the 2006-born defender has found himself on the fringes of Niko Kovac's project. The arrival of French winger Joane Gadou from Salzburg coincided with the Italian losing game time, and since early September he has failed to secure regular minutes in senior football.
The 18-year-old has not featured in any of the last five matches across league and European competition, instead returning to Youth League action. This situation has prompted Reggiani to consider moving on already in January, despite maintaining good relations with his manager and his initial desire to stay and fight for a prominent role. Several clubs have already shown interest in the young playmaking defender: Milan is leading the chase following Matteo Gabbia's injury, while Southampton is also monitoring the Emilia-Romagna product closely.
For Reggiani, this represents an important challenge. His exponential growth between March and September demonstrated his potential abroad, but young players often require continuity to develop properly. The winter transfer window could prove the right opportunity to become a protagonist again in a setting where regular minutes will be guaranteed.
