Milan eyes Ghilardi for winter: Inacio not the only target
Roma's defender, born in 2003, is on Milan's radar for the winter window. Amorim seeks a centre-back to strengthen the squad.
Milan's hunt for a new centre-back continues at a steady pace ahead of January. Beyond the well-documented interest in Sporting Lisbon's Gonçalo Inacio, the Rossoneri management has widened its scope and turned attention to Daniele Ghilardi, a 2003-born Roma centre-back. The former Sampdoria and Hellas Verona player was signed by Roma in summer 2025 for a total fee around 10 million euros.
At Roma, where Gian Piero Gasperini calls the shots, Ghilardi is struggling for playing time. In the early part of the season he has accumulated just 144 minutes across four Serie A appearances, with no Champions League debut yet. Last year, once he found his footing, he proved more valuable with 13 starts in domestic and European competition. The profile appeals to Milan for his technical and physical attributes, deemed suitable for the three-defender setup deployed by Amorim. Furthermore, he fits the strategy of including Italian players in squad lists and represents a bet on a still-young prospect.
Ghilardi is contracted to the Giallorossi until June 2030 and earns approximately 2 million euros gross per season. By comparison, Inacio's valuation stands at around 40 million, making an operation for Ghilardi potentially more accessible from an economic standpoint.
